Maybe should have just went with Orange Trees instead for a kii Both Baby and Superstar did a bit better in her discography rate, but Baby would be a bit of an awkward pick, even if it's by far the biggest song of the era, since she isn't the lead artist on that one. I do wonder if any of the other singles would have done better. Either way, Karma is the only song from the Fear half of the album to have been a single, which is why it was selected for the rate, as a way to have both halves of the album are represented. Some of the commentary mentions either it being an odd single choice or even not knowing it had been a single, but I believe its release was more to promote the Love + Fear Acoustic EP, which came a couple of weeks later, which would also explain why only the acoustic version of the song has a music video. Karma was released in August 2019 as the final single from MARINA's fourth album Love + Fear.

As you can see above, Karma received quite a bit more 9+ scores than any of the other songs eliminated so far, and was even inside the top 80 (if barely) at one point, but a handful of sub-4 ones prevented it from doing better.

I was thinking this! Those psychedelic 70s vibes are definitely there, I really like that ending.ġ0 (2) soratami | 9 (5) Is Death Girl | 2 (2) 3.0Īnd MARINA (née & the Diamonds, and henceforth be referred to as "Marina" in the rate, because typing it in all caps every time is just too much) becomes the fourth artist to lose a song. ~ Weird choice for a lead single and feels a bit too bare-bones, but it definitely has its charms. I especially like the verses, such pretty melody. ~ Comes off as a bit trend chasing and Lauv seems unnecessary here, but it's still a very good and memorable song. So both of yesterday's eliminations got the same score from me and both didn't deserve to be out so soon. I must also say that the visuals for the era are stunning - I'm a sucker for this nature/organic-type of scenery, especially the summery, tropical places and it matches the album soundscape perfectly. nor was "Mood Ring", which is so much better than anything on the album so it should stay in the rate as long as possible, but I just know it will end up massively underrated. Regarding my comment about the title track, I think "The Path" and especially "Fallen Fruit" would've been much better picks, but neither of these were lead singles. Yeah, it does seem a bit samey and Lorde gets her 'bananis and avocadis' on, but it's such a pleasant listen, has great production and very charming lyrics, and just serves as a lovely album for the summer. This rate also made me listen to "Solar Power" album (which I already had on my 'to listen' list) and I enjoyed it for the most part, so people are surely doing way too much over it.
